TAXILA, Dec 12: The local administration and law enforcement agencies in Taxila and Wah Cantonment have tightened the noose around Jamaatud Dawa (JD) activists and launched a hunt for those who have gone underground after United Nations Security Council’s Sanction Committee on Wednesday added the name of this organisation to its consolidated list.

Although there is no declared office of the banned charity organisation in the area, it runs a free medical facility and ambulance service in Wah Cantonment. However, there are a number of people associated with it in the area. After a countrywide crackdown was launched against the organisation on the directives of the interior ministry, those associated with it went underground.

On the other hand, the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) has removed all banners of the organisation from the city roads and important places in which it had sought donation of sacrificial animals’ hides.

When contacted Tehsil Municipal Officer (TMO) Mohammad Buksh Ansari confirmed that the TMA officials had removed these banners on the directives of the higher authorities.

Holiday mood: Although the federal and provincial offices here reopened on Thursday after Eidul Azha holidays, they virtually remained closed owing to low attendance on second consecutive day on Friday.

Majority of the officials were either on leave or remained absent from their duty and those who turned up were busy in exchanging Eid greetings and chatting.

The offices at Cantonment Board, Town Municipal Administration, PTCL, SNGPL and Wapda also witnessed low attendance. Even the business centers and bazaars of the city were closed and most of the roads wore deserted look. People preferred to stay at home and keep themselves busy in cooking and eating.
