ISLAMABAD, Dec 7: The government has decided to provide “foolproof security” during Eidul Azha to some 280 important personalities believed to be on the hit list of terrorists, sources told Dawn here on Sunday.

Top politicians, bureaucrats, security personnel and other VIPs on the list would be accompanied by Rangers personnel from Monday for at least three days, the sources said.

Law enforcement departments have been directed to approach the persons concerned and urge them to avoid public appearance during Eid holidays.

“As a precautionary measure, they have been advised not to offer Eid prayers in mosques and avoid disclosing their whereabouts,” a senior security official said on condition of anonymity.

There is a general instruction that only one entry point should be used in all places of worship.

Provinces have also been directed to beef up security around mosques and ensure that no individual enters a place of worship without going through scanning and physical checking.

They have been ordered to arrange extra police personnel from other areas for important cities and districts where there is a possibility of terrorist attacks.

The government has cancelled the Eid holidays of staff of government hospitals, fire-fighters, bomb disposal squads and civil defence departments.

Meanwhile, on demand of the Islamabad administration more than 700 personnel of Frontier Constabulary will arrive in the capital on Monday, the sources said.
