US vows to help India catch culprits

By Our Correspondent

WASHINGTON, Dec 3: The United States has assured Indian Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon that Washington is fully committed to helping India catch the perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks, the State Department said on Wednesday.

Mr Menon received this assurance during a two-day visit to the US capital where he also met key members of President-elect Barack Obama’s transition team. He flew back to New Delhi on Wednesday.

The State Department said that Mr Menon’s meetings with Deputy Secretary

John Negroponte and Undersecretary William Burns focussed on “continuing cooperation to find and bring to justice the perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks”.

Gordon Duguid, a department spokesman, said they also discussed a wide array of bilateral issues, including space cooperation, and talks on implementing the US-India Civil Nuclear Initiative.
