Pak-Iran meeting in Tehran on 21st

ISLAMABAD, Dec 3: The Joint Economic Commission of Pakistan and Iran will meet from Dec 21 to 23 in Tehran.

This was announced during a meeting between Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance Shaukat Tarin and Iranian Ambassador Ma’shallah Shakri on Wednesday.

Mr Tarin accepted an invitation to attend the JEC meeting.

According to an official statement, both sides expressed their governments’ resolve to promote bilateral trade and economic ties. They said that the commission would continue to pursue joint economic interests and focus on cooperation in energy, oil, trade and other sectors.

They appreciated that two Iranian companies were working in Pakistan on power generation and distribution projects. They also discussed a proposal to provide Iranian fuel for Pakistan’s power generation projects.

Mr Tarin stressed the need for promoting wide-ranging financial cooperation, including joint economic ventures and banking sector-based cooperation.

He said that Pakistan attached special significance to ties with Iran.
