LAHORE, Nov 25: Governor Salmaan Taseer has said he will continue to exercise his constitutional right and keep on asking the chief minister about any information or seeking explanation that he will require as a head of the Punjab government.

Talking to reporters after the inaugural session of an international conference on ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’ at a local hotel on Tuesday, the governor said the chief minister was bound to answer his letters which he had written within the framework of his legal and constitutional powers. “Certain clauses in the constitution are clear in this regard,” he added.

He told reporters that the chief minister had answered a couple of his letters and he was waiting for the response to the remaining letters.

Mr Taseer said it was unfortunate that his letters were not being responded to properly and instead he was putting up with ‘foul language’ as well as ‘unfounded charges’.

He said the persons concerned should answer his letters or simply inform him that they were not able to answer them. “But, they should not question my authority to ask,” he reiterated.Saying that he could not be cowed down by the foul language or threats, he added, “I did not do anything in Punjab, which is beyond my legal position and constitution”.

He said he was surprised that he had become a nightmare for some people who keep levelling charges against him.

The governor said he was making his utmost efforts that the coalition government continued working within the framework of the constitution.
