Woman gagged to death

LAHORE, Nov 25: Unidentified people suffocated a middle-aged woman at her house in Veenas Housing Society in the Kot Lakhpat area early on Tuesday, police said.

Intruders also took away Rs140,000 in cash and seven-tola gold ornaments. Kot Lakhpat police said unidentified people sneaked into the house of Surraya Bilqees in early hours, tied her hands and feet and placed a gag over her mouth that suffocated her. The accused collected cash and jewellery and fled.

Police shifted her body to morgue for autopsy and registered a case on the complaint of victim’s son, Syed Inamul Hasan.

In other incidents, one robber entered the clinic of Dr Abdul Ghani in North Cantonment, looted Rs10,000 from him, Rs450 and a cell phone from his assistant and Rs1,500 and a cell phone from a patient.

Three robbers, including a woman, barged in the house of Sundar Ali in Shahdara Town and took away Rs3,600, two cell phones and a blanket.

Police said Rehmat Ali of Begum Kot had contracted a second marriage with 40-year-old Najma several years back and had seven children.

Her stepson Salamat, who was also living with them, had a suspicion that his stepmother had developed relations with other people.

Salamat and Najma had exchanged hot words over the issue. On Tuesday, Salamat noticed an unidentified man coming out of the house. He went to his mother and questioned her about the man and after getting a cold response started quarrelling with her.
