BRUSSELS, Nov 15: Belgian athlete Hassan Mourhit received a two-year suspension on Saturday for failing a dope test of which he must serve 18 months immediately.
The 26-year-old — brother of former distance holding European record holder Mohammed who failed a dope test for EPO in 2002 — tested positive for anastrozol, primarily used to combat breast cancer but which also increases testosterone levels.
Mourhit, who failed to qualify for the Olympics in the 1500 metres, protested his innocence.
“I am totally opposed to doping,” said Mourhit.
“It is a heavy penalty, which was caused by a doctor. This product does not improve performances.”—AFP
