LARKANA, Nov 14: Pakistan Peoples’ Party was pondering over on holding local bodies’ elections on party or non-party basis, said Sindh Law Minister Ayaz Soomro.

He was talking to journalists in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto on Friday after distributing 600 appointment letters to the youth of Larkana for the post of policemen.

Six bills pertaining to hunting and other subjects would be tabled in the next Sindh Assembly session he said and hinted at increasing fine and punishment for illegal hunting.

The Law Department was busy vetting the bills which would be presented when Assembly meets in the last week of this month, he said.

The issue of holding upcoming local bodies’ polls on non-party basis was also discussed with President Asif Ali Zardari, he said.

When asked about the restoration of commissioner system, he replied that talks were being held with coalition partners and would be finalised only after meeting Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s minister Sardar Ahmed.

He said that the PPP government firmly believed in appointments on merit, the proof of which was the recently inducted police personnel and urged them to serve people with honesty and dedication.

President Asif Zardari he said had sanctioned another 1,000 posts in different departments for the youth of Larkana and every department would have a major share for this district.

Minister for Women Welfare Tauqeer Fatima Bhutto speaking on the occasion praised PPP for honouring its words and announced of accommodating educated youth in all departments without any gender discrimination.
