PESHAWAR, Nov 10: A dispute over distribution of irrigation water took lives of two people in the Balkehl village of Badbher here on Monday.

A police official said two groups led by Israr Ali and Munsif Khan had developed differences over ownership of a water channel in the locality and despite repeated efforts local elders could not resolve the issue.

The differences, he said, led to an armed clash and Israr Ali, son of Jafar Khan, and Munsif Khan, son of Younus, were killed.

Police registered two cases against Riaz, Iftikhar and Fayaz, Waris, Asif and Younus.

Meanwhile, a city police spokesman said police had arrested 55 suspected criminals, including seven proclaimed offenders, in different parts of the city and recovered weapons, fake currency notes and hashish from them.

DEMONSTRATION: Students of different government schools held a protest demonstration outside the press club here on Monday against the government’s decision to change the colour of school uniform in the province.

Holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the government, they said they belonged to poor families and were unable to purchase new ‘militia’ uniform.
