Ex-minister denied bail before arrest

LAHORE, Nov 8: Justice Tariq Shamim of the Lahore High Court has declined to accept the pre-arrest bail application of Punjab’s former transport minister Pir Ghulam Mohyudin Chishti of Vehari.

The former minister has been accused of injuring three persons in the precincts of Gaggo police station, Burewala tehsil.

The prosecution said Chishti, along with his armed accomplices, attacked and injured his opponents Ali Akbar, Mohammad Ashraf son of Allah Bukhsh and Mohammad Ashraf, son of Noor Ahmad.

In his bail application, Chishti contended that the case against him was an outcome of a political rivalry between him and Pakistan People’s Party MPA Chaudhry Fayyaz Ahmed Warraich, against whom he lost the election.

He said the prosecution accused him of injuring three persons during an ‘open court’ held by the district coordination officer and the district police officer.

Deputy prosecutor general contended that Chishti had admitted the commission of offence, which was also corroborated by the medical evidence.

The judge observed that the accused failed to make out a case for the grant of extraordinary concession of pre-arrest bail.
