PESHAWAR: Checkposts, market blown up in Peshawar
By Ali Hazrat Bacha
PESHAWAR, Nov 7: Unidentified militants blew up two police checkposts and a shopping market in the Nasir Bagh area here on Friday.
According to a police official, the destroyed Sakhipul police checkpost was at a distance of about six kilometres from the police station, while the other checkpost of the Khasadar paramilitary force of Khyber Agency was also located in the same area.
The explosive, he said, was planted somewhere in between the two checkposts which exploded at about 3pm and destroyed the posts and a two-storey market, owned by one Haji Kabal Sher. However, no casualty was reported as security forces were performing duty at the checkposts in daytime only and used to return to the Nasir Bagh police station at night.
He said it was an act of terror, but the owner of the market avoided to nominate anyone in the case. Police said a seven-kilogram bomb was also recovered from the spot which did not explode. Detonators, charging batteries, fuses and cables were also recovered from the area.
SEARCH OPERATION: SP Cantonment Circle Abdul Qadir Qamar said that the police had launched a search operation in parts of the city to find out those involved in the Peshawar airport rocket attack.
Speaking at a press conference, he said that they had started operation in the outskirts specially in Sarband, Peshtakhara, Nasir Bagh and Regi areas to identify the site from where the rockets were fired during the last three days.
He said a meeting of the police and Frontier Corps officials was held to devise a joint strategy against the miscreants, saying that they were probably fired from Shahkas area of Jamrud, Khyber Agency. He said aviation and Air Security Force (ASF) officials were probing the situation.

The weapons included 34 double-barrel and three single-barrel shotguns, one China rifle, three repeaters, two 30-bore pistols and 2,000 cartridges of various kinds. The arms were recovered from a pickup which was on its way from Bara Khyber Agency to Peshawar.Meanwhile, speaking at a press conference in Faqirabad, Deputy Superintendent of Police Abdur Rasheed Khan said that nine persons were arrested who were allegedly involved in an incident of robbery.
