KARACHI, Nov 3: A full bench of the Sindh High Court comprising Justice Amir Hani Muslim, Justice Nadeem Azhar Siddiqui and Justice Salman Ansari has dismissed as withdrawn the election petition filed by Dr Fehmida Mirza, speaker of the National Assembly.

Dr Mirza challenged the dismissal of her appeal by an election appellate tribunal in the SHC that allowed rival candidate Ali Bux Shah alias Papu Shah to contest the 2008 general election from NA-255 (Badin), Sindh.

She stated that the BBA degree of her rival candidate was bogus and he was, therefore, ineligible to contest polls.

On April 30, 2008, she requested through a letter for proceeding of an appeal by the full bench of the SHC.

The court’s order said: “Petitioner’s counsel Anwar Mansoor Khan submits petitioner had directed him to withdraw aforesaid letter on basis of which matter was referred to full bench, as same was acted upon.”

Meanwhile, Justice Khwaja Naveed Ahmed, the administrative judge of anti-terrorism courts in Karachi, on Monday remanded a suspected militant in jail custody till Nov 10, 2008, in a case pertaining to attempt on the life of Lyari SP Raja Umer Khattab.

The judge also shifted proceeding of five cases, including kidnapping for ransom, murder, explosive substances, illicit arms and police encounter, registered against Raheemullah alias Naeem alias Ali Hasan to ATC-III.
