LANDI KOTAL, Nov 3: Unidentified persons on Monday targeted an Afghanistan-bound trailer and hijacked three others loaded with wheat in Jamrud tehsil of Khyber Agency, officials said.

The vehicle was destroyed when unidentified persons targeted it with a rocket near Shagai Fort, Khasadar personnel said. Other vehicles were snatched under the watchful eyes of nearly two dozen Khasadar personnel at Hawaldari checkpost near Sur Qamar on the main Peshawar-Torkhum highway. Eyewitnesses alleged that Khasadars offered no resistance to the heavily armed militants.

Jamrud tehsil Line Officer Gula Jan admitted that his ill-equipped and ill-trained force was no match to the organised groups of militants who, according to him, were armed with sophisticated weapons. “We cannot stop them with a single rifle, besides the khasadar are not trained for such action,” he added.

The three trailers loaded with some 1,800 wheat bags were on their way to Afghanistan via Trokhum border when they were hijacked. The incident is second of its nature during the last four days in Jamrud tehsil.

In a similar incident on Oct 31, armed men had hijacked three trailers near Takhtabeg checkpost. Khasadar force had recovered only one empty trailer from Sakhi Pul locality hours after the incident. No arrests were, however, made. —Correspondent
