SUKKUR, Oct 9: An SHO and a police constable were remanded in police custody for five days by the civil court on Thursday after having been arrested on charges of criminally assaulting a woman.

Reports said that the SHO of B-Section police station, Abdul Majeed Khilji, and Police Constable Inayatullah Kalwar picked up a woman from Mohammad Bin Qasim Park on Tuesday night and took her forcibly to a guesthouse, where they subjected her to criminal assault.

The victimised woman went to the office of DIG Bashir Memon the following day and complained to him about the incident. The DIG ordered DPO Sharjeel Kharal to conduct a probe and report him immediately.

The DPO found after inquiries that the woman was speaking the truth and ordered registration of an FIR against the SHO the police constable who were later arrested and put behind the bars.

The accused were produced in the court of third civil judge Rajesh Chandar on Thursday and were granted five-day police remand.
