Blasts rock Lahore market; 7 injured

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, Oct 7: Seven people were injured when three low-intensity bomb blasts hit juice shops near the busy Garhi Shahu chowk here on Tuesday night.

The first blast took place at the Chinno juice corner at around 10pm, leaving two children injured.

About 30 minutes later, the second blast shook the nearby Al Rehman juice corner-cum-beauty parlour.

After about 15 minutes, the third bomb went off in Basko juice corner in the same bazaar, leaving five people injured.

“I was in my beauty saloon when a huge explosion took place at the Chinno juice corner and shopkeepers came out in a state of fear and confusion,” said Shafaqat Ali, the owner of a beauty parlour.

He said police started closing other shops and evacuated traders from the area. Traffic was diverted to other roads.

SSP (operations) Chaudhry Shafiq Ahmed told Dawn that the devices had been planted in the waiting areas of the shops.

He said the owners of the shops had earlier received threatening calls. They were asked to stop entry of couples into their shops and warned that otherwise they would be blown up.
