Ace Of Base eyes hat-trick as races resume
By Anwar Zuberi
KARACHI, Oct 4: Four-year-old bay colt Ace Of Base looks set to overcome the opposition and complete a hat-trick when the Gymkhana race meeting resumes after a fortnight break at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
Rider Tariq Baran who steered the colt to two successive wins last month is likely to go all out and stretch his winning run. His timings of one minute 16 seconds for six furlongs in the last run gives him an edge over bay The Conqueror who clocked one minute 17 4/5 seconds for the same distance.Seven horses are to vie for honours barring last minute withdrawals in the six furlongs class V division I and II race.
A heavy card spread over 11 races including three cups, has been drawn for the day. The first race gets into action at 12.00noon.
Two-year-old bay filly 3 Knot 3 is likely to make amends by landing The Eid Millan Cup which is restricted to two-year-old colts and fillies.
She completed the board in The Kingree Lodge Performance Cup in his debut on the Independence Day.
Those who come in the reckoning for places are colt Army Of One and filly Rahat Jan.
Four-year-old bay filly Diamond In Dust is on course for a hat-trick should she land The Sprint Championship which has the smallest field of five runners.
The filly has The Defence Day Cup and The September Cup under her belt and with regular rider Shabbir astride she will be looking forward to add another feather to her cap.
Diamond In Dust will be opposed by filly Phapha Kutni.
Three-year-old bay filly The Victorious should repeat her winning act by landing The Admiral’s Stakes to be run over seven furlongs.
The race which has six runners is confined to three-year-old colts and fillies.
She is likely to be chased by three-year-old bay colt Fast Track.
King Of Kinjher looks a better proposition in the opener which has nine unknown pedigree horses while 12-year-old bay mare Marista and three-year-old colt Sayeen Jee should land the second and third races.
The third race will be a neck-and-neck affair between Sayeen Jee and Bam Bamm and the former should capitalise her experience.
Following two unsuccessful efforts, seven-year-old mare Blind Date is knocking at the door and if allowed to run on merit should clinch the fifth race.
She should be followed by Crown Prince and Speed Of Arab.
Three-year-old bay filly Guess Its Me, mare Princess Rozi and filly Dilruba should atone to the previous loses by claiming the last three races.
