Pakistan trounce Belgium 6-3

KARACHI, Oct 3: The young Pakistan national hockey team made an encouraging start in the 4-nation Hamburg Masters Hockey Tournament in Hamburg when they trounced Belgium 6-3 on Friday, according to message received here.

Forward Haseem Khan and penalty corner striker Kashif Ali played a key role in Pakistan’s triumph with two goals apiece. Haseem slammed both his goals through solo effort while Kashif Ali scored off penalty corner strikes.

Shafqat Rasool and Mohammad Zubair, meanwhile, scored the other two goals, also through field effort. Pakistan led 3-1 at half-time. Pakistan who finished a worst-ever eighth in the Beijing Olympics, produced a fine show in outplaying Belgium in both field as well penalty corner conversions.

They now take on Malaysia on Saturday before clashing with the Olympic and World Champions Germany on Sunday.—APP
