‘Most PML-Q members want to join govt’

By Waseem Ashraf Butt

GUJRAT, Oct 3: PML-Q leader Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain has said that his party is in contact with the PPP and most of its legislators and members are in favour of joining the ruling coalition at the centre.

Talking to Dawn here, he said a decision on the matter would be taken by Pakistan Muslim League-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.

The MNA confirmed reports that he himself was against joining hands with the Pakistan People’s Party but said holding a differing opinion was a democratic right of every member of the party.

When asked about reports of a meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and PML-Q’s parliamentary leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in Washington, he said: “I don’t know anything about that meeting.”

He claimed the PPP would get Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif disqualified from courts and then seek PML-Q’s support to bring in his replacement.

He accused the Gujrat police of victimising PML-Q workers at the behest of the provincial government and Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar.

He said a damages suit would be filed by PML-Q secretary-general Zaheeruddin.
