LAKKI MARWAT, Oct 3: Naurang police averted a sabotage attempt by defusing mortar shells in the busiest bazaar here on the first day of Eidul Fitr, official sources said.

They said that some outlaws had planted three mortar shells near a kiosk in Naurang bazaar and had connected the devise with detonators and a stopwatch. “On information heavy contingent of police reached there and surrounded the area,” the sources said, adding that bomb disposal squad personnel were called from Bannu to defuse the mortar shells.

Police have filed a case against unidentified persons and started investigations.

TWO KILLED: Two people were killed and five others were injured in separate incidents in different parts of the district during Eid days, sources said.

A young boy Rehmatullah resident of Lakki City drowned in the river at Chasma, a picnic resort in Mianwali district of Punjab. A large number of people mostly youth from the district visit Chasma every year during Eid holidays. The victim, Rehmatullah had also gone there along with his friends to celebrate Eid to a picnic resort as Lakki Marwat district lacks such places and proper recreational facilities. The young boys decided to take a bath in the river. Rehmatullah who did not know how to swim went into deep water and drowned.

Local divers recovered the body of Rehmatullah from the river, which was later shifted to Lakki City.

In a separate incident sources said, “In Paharkhel Pakka village one Ismatullah was allegedly gunned down by accused identified as Gul Faraz and Ismatullah.” Sources said that a petty dispute over carrying water from a tank led to the killing incident. “The alleged killers managed to escape after committing the crime,” sources said, adding that Ghaznikhel police had registered a case against them and started investigations.

The sources further said that five people including a woman were shot and injured in different incidents. In Dagar Kilay in the area limits of Tajori Police Station an accused Ikramullah reportedly opened fire on one Gul Nasreena Bibi inflicting serious injuries to her. The injured woman was immediately shifted to Lakki City hospital from where she was referred to Bannu under precarious condition.

Meanwhile in another incident, one Azhar and his brother Zafrullah received bullet injuries when accused persons including Mohammad Ayaz, Mohammad Khan, Azam Khan, Sher Jan and Mohammad Azam sprayed bullets on them over a petty dispute in Gandi Khankhel area in the jurisdiction of Naurang Police Station.
