Royal Loyalty outpaces Mushki with fine win

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, Sept 10: In yet another noteworthy performance, public fancy eight-year-old mare Royal Loyalty powered her way to register a facile seven lengths’ victory over colt Mushki in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Wednesday.

By accomplishing the two-in-a-row feat the Royal Loyalty did the owner-cum-trainer Ibrahim and rider Arshad proud. Bay New Ferrari settled for third, further ten-and-a-half lengths away, while chestnut Hamza Joy completed the board finishing another four lengths behind.

It is significant that she has proved to be a lucky horse for new owner.

Another favourite to oblige punters was four-year-old bay colt Die-Na-Might who was on song getting the better of filly Bullet Of Arab by two-and-a-half lengths to complete hat trick.

Having won the previous two races Die-Na-Might’s victory was never in doubt in the last race where the field was reduced to 13 following withdrawls of Novaho’s Glory and New Approach.

John Player and Lucky gem followed the two for places.

Unknown pedigree mare Princess sent the first shock wave when she toppled joint favourites Serpentine and Prince Shahzad out of a blue to land the opener following withdrawl of mare Victory Prince.

She beat Prince Shahzad by four lengths for her maiden win with rider Farasat Khan astride. Serpentine was placed third while Native King completed the frame.

In yet another upset, three-year-old colt Dream Prince edged Moment To Moment II by short head to claim the third race.

Jockey Essa presented owner Pir Pagara with a winner when he stormed four-year-old bay colt Haibat Nak to an impressive five-and-a-half lengths victory to claim maiden win.

He beat mare Marista for the honours which raised quite a few eye-brows.

However, the day’s proceedings were marred by cancellation of the feature event by the KRC Racing Committee after it was run.

In a closely fought battle, filly Leopard Of Arab had won the race overcoming favourite Speed Of Arab and second favourite Dark Secret.

The rider of Blind Date Irfan Shawani was fined Rs10,000 for ‘unsatisfactory’ riding.

The bookies who felt cheated approached the high ups for compensating their losses. According to a KRC official, the Racing Committee decided to reduce their stall fee for the day to fifty percent.

Meanwhile, racing public attributed the cancellation to mala fide intentions aimed at giving benefit to certain quarters.

The next Gymkhana race meeting will be held on Sunday.
