Khalid excels in Ramazan cricket
KARACHI, Sept 3: Opener Khalid Latif hammered an enterprising half-century to help defending champions Medicam CC defeat Ideal CC by 33 runs in the 23rd Karachi Gymkhana Ramazan Twenty20 Cricket Tournament for State Life Trophy at the KG Ground on Wednesday.
Khalid banged three sixes and four fours in his 37-ball knock of 61, while ex-Test paceman Mohammad Sami hit three fours and a brace of sixes in his 36 to steer Medicam CC to 168-6 in their 20 overs. Off-spinner Tabish Nawab captured two for 35.
Ideal CC, in response, were restricted to 135-9 with Mubashir Ahmed making 37, an innings laced with five fours and one six and Shaharyar Ghani 29.
Medium-pacer Zahoor Khan claimed three for 27.
Meanwhile, spinners Aamir Naqvi and Abid Qasmi shared seven wicket between them to bowl Qasmi Cricket Club to a 21-run victory over HBL School Boys XI in the opening fixture of the tournament on Tuesday.
Leg-spinner Aamir snared four for 18 in 3.4 overs and Abid three for 28 to dismiss HBL Schoolboys XI for 113. Mohammad Waqas was the top-scorer with 32 off 28 balls.
Earlier Qasmi CC were bowled out for 134 with Zakir Malik contributing 42.
