KARACHI: Two women among three killed in violent acts

KARACHI, Sept 3: Two women, one of them 22-year-old and the other 85-year-old, and a man were killed in separate acts of violence on Wednesday, police and witnesses said.

The Korangi police said the 22-year-old woman, Najam, wife of Qayyum Chandio, was stabbed to death by her husband, who fled the crime scene.

They said the woman, who was the second wife of the suspect, was killed at her house (R-26) in Qayyumabad at around 6.30am.

The police said a seven-year-old son of the suspect from his first wife was also injured.

The body and the injured boy, Aashiq, were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Hospital sources said the injured boy sustained a stab wound to the neck.

The police registered a case (FIR 814/08) against the absconding suspect under Sections 302 and 337-A (1) of the Pakistan Penal Code for murdering the woman and injuring the boy on the complaint of Najma’s father, Bashir Khaskheli.

The complainant told police that the suspect had married his daughter one year ago after the death of his first wife, who left two children.

Elderly woman strangled

An 85-year-old woman was strangled by a man, who was stated to be mentally unstable.

Shah Latif Town police said the victim, Sughra Bibi, lived at the house (R-166) of her married daughter, Hasina, in Sector 17.

They said the victim used to sell confectionery items at the house and the suspect, Abdul Hameed Jakhrani, had come to buy some toffees.

Hasina reported to the police that the suspect came to her house and sat on a cot. She said the man pounced on her mother and strangled her.

The police arrested the suspect and booked him in the case (FIR513/0) under Section 302 of the PPC on the complaint of the victim’s daughter.

They said the suspect appeared to be mentally unstable.

The body was shifted to the JPMC for a post mortem examination. Hospital sources said the woman died due to strangulation.

Young man shot dead

A 30-year-old man was shot dead on Tariq Road.

Ferozeabad police said the victim, Daniel Wasim, son of William Wasim, was a salesman at a photography shop near Liberty Hotel.

They said that two motorcyclists came to the shop and opened fire fatally wounding the man.

The police said the victim was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where sources said the man had been brought dead to the facility.

They said the victim received two bullets in his upper torso.

The police registered a case (FIR 931/08) against unknown culprits on the complaint of Rober Sadiq, a relative of the victim.

The police said that the incident seemed to be motivated by a personal enmity.

Man, aunt injured

A 25-year-old man and his 35-year-old maternal aunt were shot and injured by their neighbour in Chaneser Goth.

Mehmoodabad police said the suspect, Majeed, fled the scene after injuring Sikander, son of Saleh Mohammed, and Nazia.

They said the two neighbours had altercations on insignificant issues in the past.

The injured victims were shifted to the JPMC where sources said Siknader had sustained a bullet wound to the abdomen, while a bullet grazed the neck of the woman.

They said both the injured were in a stable condition.

The police registered a case (FIR 270/08) under Section 324 of the PPC for attempting to kill the victims against the suspect on the complaint of Sikander’s father, Saleh Mohammed.
