KARACHI, Aug 30: A district and sessions court on Saturday adjourned till Sept 2 the hearing of a case registered against the former MPAs of the Pakistan People’s Party for allegedly manhandling a minority MPA in the Sindh Assembly since the judge was on leave.

The public prosecutor has filed an application under Section 194 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) stating that the provincial government has withdrawn the case against the accused.

The former MPAs of the PPP, Munawar Abbasi, Nawaz Chandio, and Saleem Hingoro, are the accused in the case.

The then opposition leader Nisar Ahmed Khuhro and former MPA Murad Ali Shah were acquitted in the case.

They were accused of beating up a fellow MPA, Eshwar Lal, during a session of the Sindh Assembly in June 2006 for allegedly sending a “chit” to a woman member, Shazia Marri.

A case (FIR No 396/06) was registered under Sections 324, 506-b and 109/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Preedy police station.
