LAHORE, Aug 18: A new constitution of the Pakistan Cricket Board is likely to be drafted by the ad hoc body which is expected to be named on Tuesday.

The federal sports minister Najamuddin Khan announced that ad hoc would be imposed on the board following chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf’s resignation from the post on Monday.

However, sources in the Federal Sports Ministry said the main task of the ad hoc would be to make new constitution of the board and to audit the accounts.

“The Ministry have concerns about the undemocratic constitution of the board, which allows 10 non-elected and just four elected members in the Governing Board,” the sources said.

“Furthermore, the public accounts committee may be asked to audit the accounts of the board as salaries and other accounts of the board have increased remarkably during Dr Nasim Ashraf’s tenure,” the sources said.

He further said the new constitution would give power to the district bodies to elect Governing Board members and the PCB chairman, too, as the experience of giving authority of appointing the chairman to the president failed to deliver.

During Pervez Musharraf’s tenure, three non-technocrats - Tauqir Zia, Shaharyar M Khan and Dr Nasim Ashraf — headed the PCB but all failed to deliver as the graph of Pakistan cricket slumped drastically in the past nine years.
