HYDERABAD: Protests held against murder of journalist

HYDERABAD, Aug 18: Journalist held demonstrations in many districts of interior Sindh in protest against the murder of Azeem Laghari, a journalist of Dadu district on Monday. They also observed hunger strikes.

In Hyderabad, a large number of journalists led by the president of the press club, Junaid Khanzada and Mahesh Kumar, staged token hunger strike outside the press club to protest against what they called an inordinate delay in the arrest of the murderers of Azeem Laghari.

He was killed in cold blood at the cinema chowk in Dadu. The assailants also killed Mashooq Laghari and his father, Ali Hassan on August 11.

In Tando Mohammad Khan, the journalists staged a demonstration outside the press club.

Speaking on the occasion, the president of the club, Abdul Karim Shaikh, Ghulam Nabi Keerio, Imtiaz Mangrio and others criticised Dadu police for failure to arrest the murders of Laghari.

In Naushahro Feroze, journalists took out a procession and observed token hunger strike here on Monday demanding arrest of the killers of Azeem Leghari. Led by Mazhar Khaskheli, Ghulam Mustafa Tagar and Younus Rajpar, the journalists also observed a token hunger strike for two hours.

In Dadu, journalists took out a rally and staged demonstration at DPO chowk on Monday. They were led by Nizamuddin Shaikh, Saeed Ahmed Memon and Wazir Mangi. The journalists said that police had failed to arrest the accused nominated in the murder case of Azeem Leghari and vowed to continue their protest.

Later, they observed a token hunger strike outside the press club. They also observed strike in Mehar, Wahi Pandhi, Johi, and Khairpur Nathan Shah.

In Sanghar, a token hunger strike in protest against the killing of Azeem Leghari was observed here on Monday. The protesters said that the journalists have always been made victims by the oppressors. The journalists demanded arrest of the killers of Leghari.

In Jacobabad and Shikarpur rallies were taken out by journalists against the killing of Mohammad Azeem Leghari in Dadu.

It was led by A.G.Ansari which marched on different roads and later reached at DCO chowk where journalists staged a sit-in.
