11 recovered from brick kiln

RAWALPINDI, Aug 11: A bailiff appointed by the Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench on Monday recovered 11 persons from a brick kiln in Pindi Ghaib, Attock, and the court let the recovered persons go.

Justice M.A. Zaffar of the LHC appointed Khwaja Basharat as bailiff after Sher Zaman moved the court through a lawyer for the recovery of 11 members of his family, including him. The petitioner had contended that they had been detained unlawfully by Malik Rais at his kiln where they had been working as daily wagers for quite sometime.

The owner had not allowed them to leave the brick kiln

and he also allegedly tortured them. According to the bailiff’s report, 11 persons – Sher Zaman, Amina Begum, Abdul Wahab, Umer Wahab, Asiya, Samiha, Arjumand and four children Abdullah, Arshad, Baitullah and Salma – were recovered from the kiln of Mr Rais. They were produced before the court that released them and directed the kiln owner to appear in the court and submit his reply about the alleged detention of the workers.

Separately, the judge allowed a woman to go with her husband and set aside the habeas corpus petition filed by her mother and also quashedan abduction FIR registered with the Airport police station on May 20.

Justice Zaffar allowed Samina to go with her husband, Anwar, after she stated before the court she had willingly married the man and wanted to go with him.

Fatima, a resident of Gulzar-i-Quaid, had moved the court alleging her daughter, Samina, had been detained by Superintendent of Police (SP) Investigations and sought her recovery, saying that she was a poor woman and earned her livelihood by working as a maid in several houses.

She had earlier registered an FIR with the Airport police about the abduction of her daughter allegedly by Anwar, Jalal, Sheikh Mehmood, Allah Dita and Ramzan, claiming they also took away Rs45,000 and four-tola gold ornaments.—Our Reporter
