700 Pakistanis in Turkish jails, says ambassador


ISLAMABAD, July 31: Pakistan’s Ambassador to Turkey Lt-Gen (retd) Iftikhar Hussain Shah has said that more than 700 Pakistanis are in Turkish jails on the charge of entering the country illegally.

“We are making arrangements for their early return to Pakistan,” he told BBC radio.He said that almost 60 to 70 Pakistani immigrants were being intercepted a week at the Iran-Turkey border since the beginning of summer.

The ambassador underlined the need for taking strict action against people involved in human trafficking.

Commenting on a recent report about 13 bodies of illegal Pakistani immigrants found near Istanbul, he said the embassy had information about the bodies of two Pakistanis and their relatives had been informed.—APP
