Auto makers asked to work out market projections
ISLAMABAD, July 26: Chief Executive Officer of Engineering Development Board Asad Elahi has stressed upon the motorcycle manufacturers to work out future market projections, keeping in view the provision of export markets.
Addressing the senior management of the biggest motorcycle manufacturing units in the country here on Saturday, he said that the manufacturers could play a significant role in narrowing down the rising trade deficit.
He asked them to formulate plans for localisation of non-deleted parts other than Auto Industry Development Programme (AIDP) and suggested that motorcycle parts such as regulator rectifier, ignition coil could be localised by next year while the piston, fuel cock, clutch assembly, sprocket cam by 2010 and drum gear shift, magneto, oil pump could be localised by 2011.
Mr Elahi said that domestic market has already reached a level where local manufacturing of vital components was becoming feasible.
Reviewing the overall market of the country, he proposed to carry out a market survey to ascertain utilisation of local components manufactured by Japanese and Chinese assemblers.
He said that feasibility study needed to be prepared for parts and components of motorcycle identified under AIDP to attract investment.—APP
