Inter-firms TT in full swing

KARACHI, July 23: Allied Engineering ‘A’, Pakistan State Oil (PSO) ‘A’ and New Jubilee Insurance (NJI) conjured up straight victories over their respective opponents in the first round league match of the KTTA Inter-firms table tennis tournament on Tuesday.

Twenty six outfits which are competing in the team event have been drawn into eight groups. Top team from each group will advance into the knock out quarter-finals.

The tournament which is being held at the Benazir KPT Sports Complex was inaugurated by Ms. Nasreen Haq, chairman, KPT, at an impressive ceremony.

Results (first round matches):

Group ‘E’: Allied Engineering ‘A’ bt Asian Petroleum 3-0.

Shahid Ahmed bt Kamran 11-4, 11-6, 11-7; Imran Saleem bt M. Ali Baig 11-6, 11-4, 11-5; Yousuf Shoaib bt Imran Ali 11-5, 11-5, 11-6.

Group ‘H’: PSO ‘A’ bt Hino Pak 3-0.

Salman Iqbal bt Nadeem 11-5, 11-7, 11-8; A. H. Bhatti bt Farooq 11-6, 11-8, 11-7; Atif Siddiqui bt Akhtar 11-7, 11-6, 11-8.

Group ‘F’: New Jubilee Insurance bt Johnson and Johnson 3-0.Saleem bt Maqbool Zaidi 11-4, 11-5, 11-8; Farrukh Kamal bt Rauf Khan 11-7, 11-6, 11-8; Aslam bt Arshad Ali 11-8, 11-9, 11-9.

Group ‘A’: KESC bt Pakistan Refinery Ltd 3-2.

Asad Feroze bt Shahzad Khatak 11-4, 11-5, 11-3; Irshad Mamsa bt Mohammad Masood 11-6, 11-5, 11-2; Sunjay Mardhan lost to Fawad Hussain 6-11, 8-11, 7-11; Asad Feroze lost to Mohammad Masood 9-11, 5-11, 8-11; Irshad Mamsa bt Shahzad Khatak 11-6, 11-5, 11-6.
