Bam Bamm eyes second win at KRC meet today
By Anwar Zuberi
KARACHI, July 19: Three-year-old chestnut colt Bam Bamm which came out with a sterling performance in the last outing by registering his maiden win in three attempts seems to make it two victories on the trot when the Gymkhana race takes place at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
After being placed in the first two runs, he hit the headlines by chalking up a facile six lengths’ victory under rider Ghulam Shabbir II in the June 1 meeting in div II class VII.
The colt from the stables of Syed Ismail Shah is drawn in a pack of 12 runners barring last minute withdrawals in the same division and class and start as our day’s best.
Those who come in reckoning for posing him some challenge are Kicking King and Lucky Gem. Both have finished on the board in their last runs.
Form horse four-year-old dark bay filly Bacaradi who had to be content with third slot in her last appearance is our fancy to land feature event by halting the winning sequence of bay Bharosa.
Bharosa performed outstandingly by making it six-in-a-row on June 29 to equal course record of Fantastic Baby.
Bacaradi is likely to be chased by mare Afroze Jehan and Bharosa for the places in the class IV and V div I and II which is the last race.
Also in contention is filly Crown Prince who, if allowed to run on merit, can create a surprise.
The earlier race which is the supporting event should see mare Closing Argument making amends by getting the better of opponents. Victory has eluded her in the six successive runs though she finished on the board.
Her task to end the title jinx would become easier if she will be on job. Her likely challengers are Manan Prince and Sing Sing.
Three-year-old colt Remy Martin is rated to atone for the loss by claiming the fifth race. After winning two races on a trot, he was beaten by Sweet Girl by two lengths last month.
Baby John and Speed Of Arab are likely to attain a place on the board.
Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara’s mare Make Millions should land the opener which has seven horses in fray.
Daruwala and Eager Saint have the ability to claim the next two races. After posting two-and-a-half lengths victory on June 29 the former has finished off the board twice. He is bracketed in a pack of 16 runners in the same division IV and if fit, should be allowed to run on merit.
Similarly, in the third race Sweetie Pie has come down in weight scale and division and if on job should win.
A card of seven races all to be run over five furlongs, have been drawn for the day. The first race gets into action at 2.00pm.
