PPP hijacked, says Khar

LAHORE, July 17: Former Punjab governor and a PPP leader Malik Ghulam Mustafa Khar has said the will of Benazir Bhutto, nominating Asif Ali Zardari and his son Bilawal Bhutto as her successors, was fake and tailored after her death.

Addressing the Lahore Bar Association here on Thursday, he said Asif Ali Zardari was not the successor to ZA Bhutto. Khar said the PPP was party of common people but was hijacked by the followers of Gen Ziaul Haq.

He said calling the shots in the party these days were trained by Gen Ziaul Haq. He added premier Yousuf Raza Gillani was also a minister in the cabinet of Gen Zia, who hanged ZA Bhutto.

He said the PPP got the votes in Feb 18 elections because of the lawyers movement.

He said he learnt a lot from Benazir Bhutto and could pull the country out of the present crises in three months if given a chance. “If I fail to fulfill my promise, I may be hanged,” he added.

Khar said the deposed judges should be restored to their Nov 2 position without wasting any time. He added the army must not interfere with the restoration of the judiciary.

He said if army interfered in the matters of judiciary, the masses would hold another long march from Karachi to Khyber.
