PESHAWAR: NWFP to restore cooperative societies


PESHAWAR, June 6: The Frontier Provincial Cooperative Bank and cooperative societies would be restored after fulfilling all the formalities, said NWFP Minister for Livestock and Dairy Development, Hidayatullah Khan on Friday.

It would not only benefit poor farmers but a number of jobless youths would also get employment, he said while talking to a delegation of farmers of Peshawar, which called on him at his office.

He revealed that a resolution would be moved in the next session of the NWFP Assembly for the restoration of Frontier Provincial Co-operative Bank in the Province.

The minister hoped that

ANP president Asfandyar Wali Khan would also pursue the case with the federal government for the restoration of the bank, says an official statement.

He said restoration of the bank and cooperative societies would not only generate employment opportunities but also benefit low income group of farmers as well.

He said cooperative banks in Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan were working effectively and contributing a lot in facilitating the small agriculture land owners.

While elaborating position of the bank, the provincial minister said, “the bank had not only provided loan to thousand of formers of the province at very nominal rates but it had also earned million of rupees profit during its early operational period.”

The bank had earned profit of Rs10.295 million, Rs13.175 million, Rs13.864 million and Rs4.818 million during 1996-97, 1997-98, 1998-1999 and 1999-2000 respectively.—APP
