Man killed

FATEHJANG, May 26: A man was killed in a hit-and-run accident near Qutbal village late Sunday evening, police said.

The victim, Saqib, was crossing the road when he was run over by an oil tanker. He died on the spot, while the driver escaped from the scene along with the vehicle.

Afterwards, locals blocked the road and protest against the accident. However, they dispersed peacefully when officials from Airport police station assured them that the accused would be arrested soon.

According to the residents, authorities are not taking any steps to ensure a safer road environment, though accidents on the particular section near Qutbal village have become a routine.— Our Correspondent
