Six die in separate incidents

RAWALPINDI, May 21: Six people were killed and four others injured in separate incidents in the twin cities on Wednesday, police said.

A police personnel and an under-trial prisoner were also among those who died.

In the first incident, Mohammad Tufail, 70, was killed and four members of his family were critically injured when the car in which they were travelling in rammed into a truck on Motorway near Chakri.

A spokesman for the Motorway police said the car driver had fallen asleep as a result of which his car rammed into the truck killing one of its occupants Tufail and injuring four others.

The injured who were identified as Jaleel Shah, 45, Faisal Tufail, 42, Ijaz Tufail, 40, and Karam Elahi were pulled out of the wreckage of the car and shifted to Pims where they are stated to be in critical condition. The ill-fated family belonged to Attock.

Zaheer Ahmed, a police constable, was killed after being hit by a vehicle of Atomic Energy on Adiala Road. Zaheer Ahmed was crossing the road when he met with the accident. The body was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for autopsy.

In another incident, Ghulam Hussain, an under-trial prisoner, died in Adiala jail. According to jail authorities Ghulam Hussain died of heart attack.

However, his body was shifted to DHQ hospital for postmortem. He had been booked by the Sadiqabad police in a brawl case.

Meanwhile, Ghulam Habib was killed and his brother injured when a group of villagers attacked them in Chontra on Wednesday over a petty dispute.

Police said Ghulam Habib and his two brothers Baitullah and Barat Khan, who belonged to Wana, were running a poultry farm in the village. On Wednesday a man named Aftab came to them and started talking about some issue.

He later arrived with 10 other persons and opened fire on Ghulam Habib and his brothers. Habib died on the spot while his brother Baitullah was injured.

The alleged killer escaped from the scene.

A man identified as Shahid died after taking some poisonous food item in Gawalmandi area, hospital authorities said.

Our Staff Reporter from Islamabad adds: A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a vehicle of the Netherlands embassy, police said.

Abdul Aziz, said to be in his 50s, suffered multiple injuries when he was hit by the embassy’s car bearing registration number (CD-44-18) as he was crossing Seventh Avenue.

The car was being driven by the security attache of the Dutch embassy. The injured was taken to Al-Shifa Hospital by the diplomat where he died.

The police impounded the vehicle, but said that no legal action would be taken against the driver as he had diplomatic status.
