Missing people’s families lodge complaint

By Munawer Azeem

ISLAMABAD, May 17: The Aabpara police on Saturday received applications from relatives of the two people who had gone missing in the Lal Masjid operation, nominating the country’s president, former interior minister and some top officials of the Islamabad administration as the accused in the case.

Cases of the disappearance of Mohammad Aslam and Mohammad Ali were registered on Oct 2, 2007, on the orders of the Supreme Court. However, the cases were registered against unidentified people and on charges of kidnapping.

The family, some women and a child accompanied by defence counsel Khalid Khawaja, reached the Aabpara police station at around 4pm. The police, after an hour’s delay, received the complaints and told complainants that further legal action would be taken after getting legal opinion from departments concerned.

Ms Kulsoom, wife of Mr Aslam, and Muzamil Shah, father of Mohammad Ali, submitted fresh applications, stating they had come to know that President Musharraf, former interior minister Sherpao and then chief commissioner, deputy commissioner, IG of Islamabad Police, along with their unknown accomplices, abused their powers after allegedly holding mutual consultations.

“To kill and harm Aslam, Ali and other innocent people present in the Lal Masjid, the accused used the administration for attacking the mosque in the name of Operation Silent,” they said.
