PESHAWAR: Rockets fired at police post
PESHAWAR, May15: Four rockets were fired at a police checkpost on the outskirts of provincial metropolis in the small hours of Thursday.
Police officials said that the rockets were fired from some undisclosed location and one of them directly hit Safen police post in the limits of Badbher police station.
“One rocket hit the checkpost at 3am and damaged its wall and three others landed in a residential area near the police post,” they added. Some sources said that a minor living in a mud house was injured in the incident.
Police sources said that rocket attack was followed by heavy firing from the agriculture farms near a water canal and the graveyard. The police personnel, the official said, also resorted to firing in retaliation.
SP Rural Circle Nasirul Mulk Bangash, when contacted, told Dawn that actual target of the rockets could not be ascertained so far. “It is premature to say that the police post was the target or someone was trying to hit a particular house in the area,” he added.
Some residents of the area were of the view that the attack could be a result of personal enmity as some families living in the locality had old feud with each other. According to sources sounds of hand grenades were also heard but they seemed to have missed the targets.— Bureau Report
