Tyre Jee set to extend winning streak today

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, May 3: Having won three races on a trot this season, three-year-old chestnut colt Tyre Jee is rated to stretch his winning run should he land the feature event in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

This will be Tyre Jee’s first run under the ownership of Kamal Farooq. Previously it was owned by Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara and all his three victories are tagged with him.

He galloped to a facile 10 length’s victory over Gorella in the last run on April 20 which makes him favourite for a repeat performance in the six furlongs fifth and the last race.

Chestnut Desert Hawk comes in the reckoning for a place in a small field of six runners.

The second race looks to be evenly poised between chestnut King Of Cool and Dr Dang. Both are owned by powerful owners and who-so-ever is backed by connection should emerge victorious.

We prefer King Of Cool who is likely to make amends this time by overcoming the strong field of 18 aspirants barring last minute withdrawals.

Six-year-old bay Bharosa, formerly Legend Killer, should follow the two for a place.

Owned and trained by Sher Mohammad, 12-year-old bay mare Marista is poised to land the opener.

She is likely to be chased by Qandhar and Power Plus.

If all goes well, filly Baby John should oblige punters by overcoming opponents in the third while mare Blind Date should atone to previous loss by claiming the fourth.

She enjoys an excellent track record this season. After winning four races on the trot, she was placed twice.

A card of five races — four to be run over five furlongs and one to six — has been drawn for the day. The first race gets into action at 2.00pm.

Meanwhile, it is hoped that the incident, which occurred last weekend will not be repeated and races will be held fair.
