Sockless De La Hoya makes weight

CARSON (California), May 3: Multiple world champion Oscar De La Hoya had to remove his socks to make the weight here on Friday for his non-title bout with Steve Forbes.

The 35-year-old (38-5, 30 KOs) looked perplexed after initially weighing in 1/2 a pound over the 150-pound limit before returning to the scales in his bare feet.

Former IBF super featherweight champion Forbes (33-5, 9 KOs) tipped the scales at 150 pounds during the public weigh-in held at Pershing Square in downtown Los Angeles.

Saturday’s 12-round bout will take place 20 pounds above the weight at which American Forbes held his world title from 2000 to 2002.—Reuters
