SUKKUR May 3: The district government’s system has failed to achieve the desired results for which certain changes are on the cards, said Provincial Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Abdul Haque Bhurt. He said plans were afoot to take control of different departments from them for streamlining the working and providing relief to people.

He was of the view that laxity and corruption had made the system of district governments ineffective, while the PPP government would soon bring about radical changes, including replacement of the system in coming days.

The minster was addressing a press conference at the Circuit House Sukkur on Saturday. He said he had visited livestock and fisheries network in different districts of Sindh and he visited Mando Dero Livestock Farm and Hatchery to know their functioning.

He criticised the outgoing caretaker provincial government for taking a number of negative steps, including recruitments without merit. He said about 3,000 jobs were vacant in Livestock and Fisheries Department which would be filled soon, on merit.

He said the youth of the province were deprived of jobs during last 10 years and a policy will soon be enforced to provide them jobs locally and also in foreign countries under the ministry of labour and manpower.

He disclosed that stipends will be paid to jobless matriculate, intermediate and graduate youths and they will be provided training in different technical and scientific departments after which they would be offered regular jobs.

He held out an assurance to direct the district government to shift cattle of Sukkur City at the Cattle colony which had been completed but the project as yet not implemented due to district government’s lack of commitment.

On the occasion DG Livestock Sindh Ghulam Muhammad Mahar also gave details of some schemes for the promotion of livestock sector. General

Secretary PPPP Sukkur City Dr Arshad Mughal accompanied the Minister.
