Demo against police for thrashing truck driver

By Our Correspondent

NAROWAL, May 3: Truck drivers on Saturday blocked a road for an hour in protest against the policemen who severely beat up a truck driver near Sughra Shafi Memorial Hospital for not clearing the way for their vehicle.

Some policemen in plain clothes were travelling by their vehicle (No JMC-7488). When they reached near hospital on Narowal-Muridke Road, they tried to overtake a truck loaded with wheat, but driver Muhammad Boota did not give them way for sometime. The infuriated policemen stopped Boota at some distance, thrashed him for his ‘rudeness’ and injured him. Some passing-by truck drivers stopped there, rescued Boota from the policemen and took him to the district hospital for first aid.

The truck drivers thereafter blocked Narowal-Muridke Road for an hour against the policemen’s highhandedness. Later, Narowal District Police Officer Ahmed Mubarak reached the scene and assured the protesting truck drivers of action against the policemen.

RPO: The Gujranwala regional police officer (RPO) said here on Saturday there was no room for corrupt officers in the police department. Speaking to police officers and station house staff during his visit to Narowal, the RPO advised police officials to straighten their line of action and use all their energies to stop the crime.
