HYDERABAD, May 3: Inaugurating two water pipelines of four and six inches diameter in Qasimabad on Friday evening District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil said that 98 per cent population of Qasimabad will now be getting filtered water.

The pipelines have been laid at a cost of Rs1.9 million.

He said with the laying of these two pipelines, the people of goth Arib Soomro, Tahir Soomro, Usman Soomro, Misri Rind, Domara goth, Al-Fateh town and other adjoining areas will be provided filtered water.

He said all facilities of health, education, roads and sewerage have been made available to the people of Qasimabad taluka like Latifabad and city talukas.

He said, originally only 150 acres of land in Qasimabad were occupied but now it has been converted into a big town.

He said with the increase in the population, the people had to face two big problems — water supply and sewerage.

He said with the construction of a pumping station in Sheedi goth, the sewerage problem of a big area of Qasimabad would be resolved and added that the pumping capacity of the existing pumping stations had also been increased by 300 to 500 per cent.

He said previously all the sewage of Qasimabad was disposed of into the Indus River, contaminating its water.

However, the present district government was constructing a sewerage treatment plant at Sehrish Nagar which would become operational very soon, he said.

He said a water pipeline at a cost of Rs80 million from the old filter plant to Sehrish Nagar in addition to other small pipelines had already been laid.

He said a new hospital was also under construction at Sehrish Nagar and the existing general hospital which for all practical purpose, was working only as a dispensary, has been expanded and converted into a full-fledged hospital. He said for this hospital, machinery had already been purchased for the urology ward which will start functioning within next few weeks.

Yet another hospital has also been constructed behind the poly-technical college which will start functioning next month, he said.

Kanwar Naveed Jamil said that the district government had already provided garbage lifting trucks and mechanical sweepers to Qasimabad taluka and added that eight high-mast towers had been installed in the taluka to illuminate Qasimabad.

Director-general of HAD Altaf Memon and other elected representatives were also present on the occasion.
