QUETTA, April 29: JUI-F secretary-general Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri and Malik Mumtaz Mahfooz of the PPP have been elected to Senate unopposed on a general seat and the other for technocrats.

According to the provincial election commission, seven candidates who had filed their nomination papers for the general seat withdrew their papers, leaving Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri as the only candidate.

Malik Mumtaz Mahfooz was the only candidate for the technocrat seat after nomination papers of Mrs Surriya Amiruddin were rejected by the Election Commission.

The general seat fell vacant after the death of Malik Sarwar Khan Kakar of the PML-Q.

The technocrat seat was vacated by Agha Mohammad of the JUI-F after he was elected to the National Assembly from Pishin.
