NCA marks world dance day

RAWALPINDI, April 29: The National College of Arts on Tuesday celebrated International Dance Day.

Expert and dance teacher Indu Mitha along with her students presented short but enthralling performances on the occasions. The students performed different kinds of classical dances and depicted a variety of emotions and stories.

The programme was arranged by the theatre department of NCA. Some clips of a film depicting the performances of different dance experts in Pakistan were also screened.

Indu Mitha is an expert in Bharatya Natyam, a kind of classical dance in South Asia. She got her students perform Kathak, Kathkakali and Bharatya Natyam to mesmerise the audience consisting of NCA students. She also engaged some of the untrained students in the dance performances.

A group of the performers presented the story of an old oak tree in Islamabad, where Mahatama Gutam Budh is said to have sat for some time, that was chopped down by a group of Madreassah students. Other performances included evening dance, and dances showing different human emotions. Dance is a language and it has its own grammar. It is an art and imbibed in human nature, the dance teacher said.
