MIANWALI, April 27: All deposed judges, including Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, will soon be reinstated, according to Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani.

He was speaking at a ceremony held to mark the inauguration of the Namal College built by Tehrik-i-Insaaf chief Imran Khan here on Sunday.

The 5,000-strong audience greeted Mr Gilani’s announcement with the slogan of ‘Go Musharraf Go’.

Mr Gilani said despite their “divergent political views” coalition partners were united in efforts to steer Pakistan out of crisis.

Later, Mr Gilani told reporters that Kalabagh dam could not be built without consensus among the provinces. The government, he said, would start building small dams to overcome energy shortage.

Praising Imran Khan’s efforts aimed at providing quality education, the prime minister announced a grant of Rs30 million for the college’s hostel.

The prime minister also promised to send the minister for tourism for developing the Namal Lake area into a resort.

Imran Khan said that in view of the extreme poverty and unemployment in the area, he had pledged to set up a university there to produce skilled workforce. Terming the college as the first step towards realisation of that goal, he said it would be later converted into a university. He said the site for the project had been donated by local people. A representative of the Bradford University said that the Namal College was among three institutions outside the UK affiliated to the university.

Federal Minister for Education Ahsan Iqbal also addressed the gathering.
