Refreshed Claim to Fame poised for honours at Karachi races

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, April 26: Making her appearance after a four-month layoff, three-year-old bay filly Claim to Fame is tipped to land The HFK Group Of Company Cup when the Gymkhana race meeting takes place at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

With two successive wins under her belt, Claim To Fame is drawn in a field of six runners in the six furlongs seventh race on card which is also the day’s feature event.

Claim To Fame made an impact when she landed The AKD Nursery Cup, a handicap race for two-year old colts and fillies, in her last appearance in the Quaid-i-Azam Gold Cup meeting on Dec 25.

The timings and current form of the filly suggests that she should win the honours by overcoming the opponents.

Filly Sahibzadi and bay colt Lion Hi Arab are likely to pose her challenge.

Four-year-old bay filly Diamond In Dust who was narrowly beaten by Abhi Abhi in The Karachi Breeder Cup last weekend, seems poised to make amends by claiming the six furlongs supporting event, the concluding race of the programme.

There are seven aspirants in the race barring last minute withdrawals. Those who come into reckoning for posing her a threat are Closing Argument and Terrorist.

If all goes well four-year-old bay colt Spirit Of Arab, formerly Gorella, should pick up spoils in the top division of class VII by getting the better of colt Tube Jee and bay Khan Jee.

Mare Royal Loyalty, bay Shan-e-Mir and colt Muktadar are rated to shine in the first, second and third race while stable-mates Dr Dang and Blind Date should present owner with winners in the other two races.
