By Haleem Asad
TIMERGARA, April 26: The Jamaat-i-Islami backed traders’ organisation, Islamic Business Forum (IBF), won the election of Anjuman-i-Tajaran Timergara (ATT) here on Saturday.
Haji Anwarud Din and Haji Laiq Zada of the IBF were elected as president and general secretary respectively, election committee head Haji Mohammad Halim told journalists.
The IBF panel defeated the Muttahida Business Forum (MBF) backed by the PPP, ANP and the PML and was elected to the ATT for the next three years.
More than three thousands shopkeepers of different markets participated in the election, for which 22 polling booths had been set up. The polling started at 8 am and ended at 3 pm.
According to results, Haji Anwarud Din and Haji Laiq Zada bagged 2,488 votes each and were elected as president and general secretary, respectively, defeating Haji Habib Ahmad and Abdullah of MBF. The other office bearers would be selected by the president and the general secretary within a week, according to the by-law of the ATT.
It is interesting to note that all major political parties had been involved in electioneering for their favourite candidates.
