ISLAMABAD, April 25: Dr Fehmida Mirza, the speaker of the National Assembly (NA), has constituted a 17-member National Assembly Standing Committee on Sports comprising members of the treasury and the opposition.

The committee in its first meeting, expected in the next few days, will elect its chairman.

Federal Minister for Sports Khawaja Mohammad Asif is the ex-officio member of the committee.

Meanwhile, sources told Dawn that the first agenda of the committee could be the Pakistan Cricket Board and the ban on fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar.

Other members of the committee are: Mir Amir Ali Magsi, Mehreen Anwar Raja, Amir Yar Warn, Anyat Ali Shah, Mir Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani, Ramesh Lal, Malik Azmat Khan, Parveen Masood Bhatti, Tasneem Siddiqui, Naseer Bhutta, Chaudhry Ghias Mela, Mohammad Siddique Baloch, Sahibzada Mahoob Sultan, Tayyab Hussain, Muzaffar-ul-Mulk, Hameedullah Jan Afridi.
