Symposium on biometrics security held

ISLAMABAD, April 23: Biometric identification process provides authenticated solutions to various security issues, according to Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M. Afzal Tahir.

Inaugurating a two-day international symposium on ‘Biometrics and security technologies’ here on Wednesday, the naval chief said: “The post-9/11 security environment demands fool-proof security measures to deny access of sensitive installations to terrorists and criminals operating across the globe.” The meeting was organised by the Bahria University.

Admiral Tahir is also pro-chancellor of the university.

The gathering was also attended by Vice-Admiral Farooq Rashid and Prof Dr Munir Hassan, the dean of the engineering faculty presented a paper.

Prof Dr Mark Nixon of the University of Southampton spoke on architectures for multi-biometric fusion.

Mr Ammar Jaffri, director-general of the National Response Centre for Cyber Crime, presented a paper on biometrics and crimes in the virtual world.

Other speakers included Dr Athar Mahboob of PNEC, Dr Syed Ali Khayam and Dr Fauzan Mirza of the NUST, Mr Rashid Faruqui of Bahria University, Mr Syed Ahsan Abad Shah of the UET, Lahore, and Mr Maqsood Razi of the Dadabhoy Institute of Higher Education.
