DADU, April 21: The second civil judge and judicial magistrate of Kotri Malik Javed Iqbal on Monday remanded former Sindh minister Altaf Unnar for two more days in police custody and fixed April 26 for hearing his bail application. Mr Unnar, who is defending himself in a case charging him with attack on Pakistan People’s Party MNA Dr Azra Pechuho, sister of PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, was brought to court in a prisoners’ van amid tight security. The case was filed at Budha Pur police station in Kotri taluka on court orders after police refused to file an FIR against Unnar, who was then a provincial minister.

The case accuses Unnar and his henchmen of firing on Ms Azra Pechuho’s car when she and a number of other PPP leaders arrived at a polling station in Budha Pur to observe by-elections in the previous government.

A large number of Unnar’s supporters were present in the court premises to welcome their leader. Before arriving at the court Unnar had ECG, blood pressure and sugar tests carried out at Kotri Taluka Hospital.

DPO investigation Ghulam Hussain Mastoi and DSP Nooriabad supervised security measures for the high profile prisoner.
