Tyre Jee set to make a hat-trick of wins at KRC
By Anwar Zuberi
KARACHI, April 19: Three-year-old chestnut colt Tyre Jee is poised to make it three-in-a-row should he land the concluding race in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
The colt seems to be in top form which is evident from his nine-and-a-half lengths victory under rider Essa in the Pakistan Day meeting on March 23.
The same rider rode Tyre Jee home to his first win of the New Year exactly two months back.
Tyre Jee starts as our day’s best and if all goes well, he should present owner Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara with yet another winner by overcoming 10 opponents in the five furlongs top division race of class VII.
He is likely to be followed by four-year-old bay colt Gorella and five-year-old mare Hi Darling.
Seven-year-old chestnut mare Blind Date and jockey Ghulam Shabbir II are synonymous as the latter has piloted her home in four successive meetings.
Owned by the KRC chairman, Syed Sadruddin Shah and saddled by Ehtisham, she is rated to stretch her winning run by capturing The Moon Soon Cup which is the fourth race on the card.
The division II, class VII, race to be run over five furlongs has attracted 17 runners barring last minute withdrawls.
Filly Jadu Jantar and colt Mushki comes in the reckoning for the places.
The Karachi Breeder Cup, a handicap race for three-years and upwards to be gone over seven furlongs, is likely to be a two-horse race between mare Abhi Abhi and filly Victorious.
The former is on course to make it two on the trot, having won her last six furlongs race in one min 15 1/5 seconds whereas the latter is tipped to complete a hat-trick. She clocked one min 16 3/5 seconds for six furlongs in her last outing.
On classification and form Abhi Abhi should oblige punters by repeating the feat. Those who are likely to follow her are The Victorious and filly Diamond In Dust.
As many as 18 horses will face the starter in the fifth race barring last minute withdrawls where Eager Saint enjoys an edge to make amends. Trust Again and NYX should battle it out for the places.
Owner-trained mare Marista should reign supreme in the seventh race by getting past Shen-e-Awan and Mixed Blessing. Mare Make Millions and colt Walayat who are good in handicap, if tried, can upset the results.
Four-year-old bay gelding Vice Admiral, chestnuts Terrorist and Hamza Joy are rated to emerge victorious in the first three races. Canon Ball who is drawn alongside Hamza Joy can win any time.
A card of eighth races including two cups, have been drawn for the day. The first race begins at 1.00pm.
